The Derfflinger-class battle cruiser is the first  of the German Imperial Navy battle cruisers -- the second is the Lutzow. The Derfflinger and the Lutzow went into service in 1914 and 1916, respectively, and participated in the Battle of Jutland in 1916, where the Lutzow sank and the Derfflinger was wrecked; she was scuttled in 1919 after the end of World War I.
