HISTORY OF FRENCH DORIS SAINT MALO

Discover the 2023 wooden model ship of the French doris Saint Malo. This Canadian fishing boat was used on the Massachusetts and Nova Scotia schooners, but lately it was introduced in France, Spain and Portugal.

The ship type doris was transported on its mother ship, usually a schooner. On its roof the doris traveled stacked, and were used by one or two crew on the cod banks of Newfoundland to fish.

During the day, they returned to the mother ship several times to unload their catches. Due to their strength, low cost and ease of stowage, the Doris continued to be used as working boats on sailboats and pleasure ships.
